ICICI-Videocon loan case: CBI questioned by bank officials

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has questioned some officials of the ICICI Bank in 2012 to ascertain the irregularities in the Rs 3,250 crore loan given to Videocon Group.
The CBI is trying to ascertain whether any help was made in return for providing bank loans in this case.
Officials of CBI told that they are also studying the documents related to it. If evidence of any kind of disturbances is found, then ICICI Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Chanda Kochhar, her husband Deepak Kochhar and others can be summoned for detailed inquiries.
He said that statements of nodal officers involved in approving the loan have been recorded. It was done on the basis of primary investigation (PE) registered six weeks ago.
Videocon Group’s chief Venugopal Dhoot, Deepak Kochhar, and others have been nominated in the PE.
This loan got headlines when some news questions were raised about the help given to Videocon, instead of helping in this loan.
In these media reports, Venugopal Dhoot of Videocon Group was linked to Deepak Kochhar’s company Nippavar Reinubels.
Earlier this week, the Board of Directors of ICICI Bank, in favor of Chanda Kochhar, said that it has full confidence in Chanda Kochchar. The Board of Directors said that the news coming to the credit given to Videocon was rumored to damage the image.
The bank said in the statement that the board of directors also reviewed the internal process of sanction of the loan and found it excellent.
Regarding this loan, the bank said that it is only a part of the total debt given by the group of banks. He said that ICICI Bank is not the main lender in it.
CBI said that if there is any evidence of any kind of disturbance, then ICICI’s MD and CEO Chanda Kochhar and her husband Deepak Kochhar can also be questioned.
